Background:
Leonard was a mild mannered history teacher at one of the local junior-highs. He dedicated his life to his work, trying not only to teach his students, but also to educate them. There is a saying that if there is such a thing as fate, it rolls dice. In Leonard’s case, they must have been loaded.
It was a perfect sunny summer day and Leonard was taking his class on field trip to Washington D.C., to see a little part of history. Unfortunately for them, they were randomly selected by the mutant criminal Fire-Reign as his hostages. Leonard was horrified. The only thing he could think of was trying to get this criminal away from his students. He got him away. Forty feet, right into a solid brick wall. Fire-Reign was severely injured and later died of his injuries in the hospital. Leonard’s new found powers had just saved the day.
The school board didn’t see it the same way. Maybe it was because of the blatant display of violence in front of the students, or maybe it was just because he was a mutant. The reason doesn’t really matter. He was fired.
Alone, confused and frightened, he found his way to the Unlikely X-Men and to his chance of making a difference in this world.

Personality:
Leonard is a conformist. He believes in the system and however corny it may sound, in The American Dream.
Ever since he discovered his powers, he has actually been afraid of them, afraid of what he is becoming, and afraid of what he might do, by accident or by lack of proper attention, but more than anything, he’s afraid of no longer being “one of the guys”, of being different.

Appearance:
Leonard is quite an ordinary looking bloke, standing 1.70m tall and weighing 65 kg. He is no athlete, but he keeps his body in good shape. His brown hair is cut in a conservative hair-cut and he hides his brown eyes behind a pair of glasses.
He dresses as a conservative, respectable school teacher, usually preferring brown and gray suits.
When donning the identity of X-Pel, Leonard wears a black and blue body-suit, complete with boots and gloves. He also wears a helmet complete with a visor which in fact holds a pair of lenses that act as glasses and help him overcome his myopia.

Powers/Tactics:
Leonard has the mutant power to create and manipulate anti-gravitons – particles that are identical to gravitons in every way possible, except for the fact that they create a repelling force instead of a pulling force.
He can use this control of anti-gravity to lift and move objects at a distance, including himself. He can fire concentrated beams of anti-gravity that cause enormous amounts of damage, and he can surround himself with a field of anti-gravity that will repel any physical attack before reaching him.
In addition, Leonard can sense the gravitational flux caused by objects around him, making it virtually impossible to sneak up on him.

Notes:
Despite his fear and refusal to use his powers, Leonard may very well be one of the most powerful mutants to ever walk the Earth. But it will take lots of training and the proper guidance for him to realize and fulfill his potential.
